LM Studio
LM Studio puts model discovery, quantisation selection, and a chat interface behind a native GUI, and can expose an OpenAI-compatible server for use by other applications. It is closed source, though free to use, which is worth knowing if an open toolchain matters to you.
Strengths
- Approachable graphical interface, no command line required
- Helpful model browser with quantisation and hardware-fit hints
- Built-in local server for connecting editors and other tools
Weaknesses
- Closed source, unlike most of the local AI toolchain
- Less scriptable and automatable than command-line engines
- Licensing terms for commercial use are worth checking before deploying
